Speaker: A./Prof. Son Lam Phung
Host: A/Prof. Huayong Liu
Speakers Information:
Son Lam Phung received a Bachelor of Engineering with First-class Honours (1999) and Ph.D. in computer engineering (2003), from Edith Cowan University, Australia. His research is in the areas of image processing, pattern recognition, signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, for applications in security, defence, healthcare, and industry. His papers have received 2230+ Scopus citations (h-index: 21), and 3830+ Google Scholar citations (h-index: 26).
Overview:
The lectures cover three aspects. First, we give an overview of the image and signal processing research at the Centre of Signal and Information Processing, University of Wollongong. The projects discussed include assistive navigation for blind people, through-wall radar imaging, human motion classification with micro-Doppler radars, camera-based drone detection and classification, facial image analysis, ground-penetrating radar, and functional MRI. Second, we discuss several recent deep learning algorithms for semantic image segmentation, and their applications in pedestrian lane detection and hyperspectral image processing. Third, we present a new deep neural network for monocular depth estimation in assistive and autonomous navigation.
