From November 5th to 7th, 2023, the International Conference on Intelligent Education and Intelligent Research (IEIR 2023), which was jointly organized by Central China Normal University (CCNU) and Hubei Society of Artificial Intelligence for Research and Education, was held in the Lecture Hall of CCNU South Lake Campus. Approximately 60 experts and scholars from different countries and regions such as Australia, Singapore, the United States, Japan, Pakistan and Burundi attended the conference in person or online. The vice president of CCNU Shuangjie Peng was present at the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

On behalf of CCNU, Peng first extended a warm welcome and sincere greetings to all the guests. In his speech, he pointed out that we are at the critical crossroad of reshaping the paradigms of education and scientific research by the means of integrating artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies. With the theme of “Intelligent Education and Intelligent Research”, Peng indicated, this conference fully embodied the spirit of our times. In 2020, CCNU took the lead in launching and establishing Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education in China, aiming at creating an innovation hub for the deep integration of artificial intelligence and education. He said that this meeting would provide an excellent opportunity for sharing various ideas, discovering new research directions and establishing cooperation. CCNU has always been looking forward to working with experts and scholars to promote the rapid development of intelligent education and intelligent research.

Xinguo Yu, Dean of CCNU Wollongong Joint Institute and Chair of Hubei Society of Artificial Intelligence for Research and Education, mentioned that nowadays AI is witnessing radical breakthroughs, and we hope to explore how this advanced technology can empower and maximize education and research to the human needs through open communication and constructive exchanges.

The meeting invited Prof. Jun Shen from the University of Wollongong, Australia, Associate Prof. Hon Wai Leong from the National University of Singapore, and Prof. Guofeng Zhang from Zhejiang University to give keynote speeches. They respectively focused on the themes like “Future Intelligent Educational System of Web3”, “The History of AI and Its Impact on Education and Research”, and “The Visual Localization and Reconstruction of End-cloud Collaboration and Its Applications” to discuss the cutting-edge academic achievements and future orientation in the field of AI. During the report session, experts such as Associate Prof. Liang Chao from the School of Computer Science of Wuhan University, Associate Prof. Xiaoshu Xu from the School of Foreign Languages of Wenzhou University, and Researcher Wenbin Gan from the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology of Japan were invited to give reports on the improvement and enhancement of education and research through AI.

The International Conference on Intelligent Education and Intelligent Research, founded by Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education of CCNU and Hubei Society of Artificial Intelligence for Research and Education in 2022, is held annually to provide a platform for scholars and practitioners to share and exchange experience in intelligent education and research. This year, the conference received a total of 76 papers from multiple countries and regions around the world. Ultimately, 49 of them  are accepted and will be included in the academic literature database of IEEE Xplore.
