The Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Institute") is a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution officially approved by the Ministry of Education. It is jointly established by Central China Normal University (CCNU), one of the universities on the list of the “211 National Education Priority Project” and “Double First-Class” Initiative, and the University of Wollongong (UOW), a globally influential high-level research university in Australia.

The Joint Institute offers double-degree (awarding a Chinese diploma, a Chinese degree, and a foreign degree) and single-degree (awarding a foreign degree) master's programs in Computer Technology (Science), Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning and Big Data).

The Joint Institute has fully introduced the high-quality international curriculum system, quality assurance, and academic standards of the University of Wollongong in the field of information technology. Relying on CCNU's national-level research platforms, such as the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning and the National Engineering Research Center for Educational Big Data, the Institute collaboratively promotes the cultivation of practical and innovative talents. It is committed to integrating high-quality international educational resources with local research capabilities to build a high-level, high-quality Sino-foreign cooperative education system.

From 2018 to 2025, the Joint Institute has cultivated over 810 graduates across 8 cohorts, with an average employment rate of 93%. As of August 2025, the employment rate for graduates of the double-degree program in the class of 2025 reached 96%. The quality of graduate employment is widely recognized.

Numerous graduates have joined Fortune Global 500 companies and large state-owned enterprises such as Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, China Mobile, and State Grid, demonstrating the significant effectiveness of talent cultivation. Additionally, some graduates have chosen to pursue further studies at high-level universities overseas or in China, including the University of Wollongong, Waseda University, Wuhan University, etc.

I. Admission Types and Programs

Double-Degree: Applicants must participate in the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination. Upon meeting the degree conferral requirements, graduates will receive a Master's Diploma and a Master's Degree Certificate from Central China Normal University, and a Master's Degree Certificate from the University of Wollongong.

Single-Degree: Applicants must submit application materials as required by the Joint Institute. After review and admission, and upon meeting the degree conferral requirements through joint training, graduates will receive a Master's Degree Certificate from the University of Wollongong. The University of Wollongong's degree certificate can be accredited by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) of the Ministry of Education.

The Joint Institute offers both double-degree and single-degree master's programs in the field of information technology: Computer Technology (Science), Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning and Big Data). The double-degree programs are designed for students who participate in the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination, covering Computer Technology (50 quotas), Telecommunications Engineering (40 quotas), Software Engineering (20 quotas), and Artificial Intelligence (20 quotas). Meanwhile, the single-degree programs operate on an application-assessment system with a total of 120 quotas, encompassing Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, and Machine Learning and Big Data.

II. Training Mode

Full-time teaching with all courses delivered in English. The curriculum system is consistent with that of the University of Wollongong.

Double-Degree: The program duration is three years. Students will primarily study at Central China Normal University and can independently decide whether to study at the University of Wollongong's main campus for one semester.

Single-Degree: The program duration is two years. Students will primarily study at Central China Normal University and are required to study at the University of Wollongong's main campus for one semester.

The specific timing for students in both double-degree and single-degree programs to study in Australia will be determined by the two universities according to relevant regulations.

III. Application Requirements

Applicants for the single-degree or double-degree programs at the Joint Institute must meet the following basic requirements:

1. A recognized bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.

2. An undergraduate GPA of 70 or above.

3. Demonstrated proficiency in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Applicants for the double-degree program must also meet other admission requirements stipulated in the "Central China Normal University 2026 Master's Program Admission Guide."

IV. Application Procedures

Double-Degree Program:

Follow the requirements of the "Central China Normal University 2026 Master's Program Admission Guide" for online registration and online confirmation, selecting a program offered by the Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute.

Single-Degree Program:

Log in to the Joint Institute's "Single-Degree Program Pre-Application System" (https://uowji-admission.ccnu.edu.cn/login), fill in the relevant information, and upload application materials.

V. Assessment and Admission

Double-Degree Program:

Candidates whose written test scores (both total and individual subjects) in the 2026 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination meet the Joint Institute's basic requirements for re-examination are eligible to participate. The written test score for English must be 60 or above. The Joint Institute will conduct re-examinations and admissions according to the schedule of the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination. After passing the re-examination and receiving a preliminary admission offer, candidates will be formally or conditionally admitted in one of the following two ways:

  (1) Candidates who pass the foreign university's qualification review and achieve an IELTS score of no less than 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0 (or meet the requirements of other internationally recognized English proficiency tests ), will be formally admitted.

  (2) Candidates who pass the foreign university's qualification review but do not meet the language requirements for formal admission will be conditionally admitted. They will be formally admitted upon submitting a qualifying language score within the specified time or successfully completing an intensive English training program jointly organized by the Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute and the University of Wollongong.

  (3) Candidates who do not pass the foreign university's qualification review will not be admitted. Those who fail to submit a qualifying language score within the specified time or fail the intensive English training assessment will not be admitted.

Note: IELTS scores cannot replace the written test scores of the postgraduate entrance exam. The aforementioned IELTS or other internationally recognized English proficiency test scores must have been obtained within two years.

Single-Degree Program:

Applicants who pass the review by the Joint Institute and the University of Wollongong must participate in an independent admissions exam arranged by the Joint Institute. After passing the exam and receiving a preliminary admission offer, they will be formally or conditionally admitted in one of the following two ways:

  (1) Candidates who pass the foreign university's qualification review and achieve an IELTS score of no less than 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0 (or meet the requirements of other internationally recognized English proficiency tests ), will be formally admitted.

  (2) Candidates who pass the foreign university's qualification review but do not meet the language requirements for formal admission will be conditionally admitted. They will be formally admitted upon submitting a qualifying language score within the specified time or successfully completing an intensive English training program jointly organized by the Central China Normal University Wollongong Joint Institute and the University of Wollongong.

  (3) Candidates who do not pass the foreign university's qualification review will not be admitted. Those who fail to submit a qualifying language score within the specified time or fail the intensive English training assessment will not be admitted.

Note: The aforementioned IELTS or other internationally recognized English proficiency test scores provided by applicants must have been obtained within two years.

VI. Tuition and Financial Aid

CCNU Tuition: 80,000 RMB per academic year (the actual fee is subject to the announcement on the university's finance office website). CCNU will not charge tuition for Joint Institute students during their study period at the University of Wollongong.

UOW Tuition: Payable according to the tuition standards of the corresponding program at the university. Joint Institute students are eligible for a certain reduction compared to regular international students, as per the fee schedule published by the University of Wollongong.

Financial Aid: Central China Normal University provides various scholarships and financial aid. Detailed policies are subject to the "Implementation Measures for Scholarships of the Wollongong Joint Institute" and other relevant university regulations.
